Announcement: Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa to be Yeru Bön Center’s Resident Lama

April 2, 2026

To Bonpo Students and Friends of our Tibetan Bön Masters.

We are deeply honored to announce that Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa has been approved by Menri Monastery as Yeru Bön Center’s first resident Lama. We are most grateful for the kindness and blessings of His Holiness, the 34th sMenri Trizin, and Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, Founder of Yeru Bon Center, for this honor.

This is a meaningful and auspicious moment for our community, as GesheLa joins us to help promote, preserve, and share the ancient and unbroken 18,000-year tradition of Yungdrung Bön.

GesheLa is truly a precious jewel of the Bön tradition. You can read about his accomplishments in his biography. But more importantly, those of us who have had the privilege of working with Geshe-la over the past years have come to understand his kindness, wisdom and devotion to Bon. We look forward to all of you getting to know Geshe-la and experiencing what a great monk and teacher he is.

Having both our founder, Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, and GesheLa teaching and preserving the authentic texts of Bön through Yeru Bön Center will be an extraordinary gift to all.

GesheLa is scheduled to arrive in the United States this May. We warmly invite you to come visit Yeru Bön Center, meet GesheLa, and experience his presence and guidance firsthand.

May the blessings of the lineage guide and support all who come, bringing clarity, compassion, and realization for the benefit of all beings.

Sincerely,
Yeru Bön Center

Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa

Resident Lama Of Yeru Bön Center

Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa was born in Lithang, Tibet. From a young age he demonstrated a deep commitment to study, discipline, and the path of spiritual realization.

From 1996 to 2002, he began his formal monastic education at Drogon Yungdrung Dudul Ling Monastery, where he established a strong foundation in the teachings and practices of the Yungdrung Bön tradition. He continued his studies from 2003 to 2007 at Triten Norbutse Monastery in Nepal, engaging in rigorous training in Tibetan grammar, poetry, logic (Tshad Ma), philosophical systems (Grub Mtha), and the paths and stages of realization (Sa Lam).

In 2008, Geshe-la journeyed to India to enroll in the esteemed Bön Dialectic School at sMenri Monastery, the principal monastery of the Yungdrung Bön tradition. There, he pursued comprehensive studies in Sutra, Tantra, and Dzogchen. His dedication across the diverse fields of knowledge (Rig Pa’i gnas) earned him the highest distinctions in multiple annual examinations.

On March 10, 2020, by the kindness and grace of Lungtok Dawa Dargye, His Holiness the 34th sMenri Trizin, he was awarded the prestigious Geshe Degree at sMenri Monastery—one of the highest academic honors in the Bön tradition.

During his years at the monastery, Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa served the monastic community in several important roles, including disciplinarian (dge skos), junior assembly officer (tshogs gzhon), secretary (drung yig), and steward (gnyer pa). In addition, he devoted six years to teaching major philosophical texts (mtshan nyid rig pa) to junior monks, guiding the next generation with clarity and care.

His scholarly contributions extend beyond the monastery, with several of his articles published in Tibetan journals and periodicals worldwide. In 2015 and 2016, he was honored to participate in the First and Second Inter-sectarian Scholarly Dialogues, sponsored by the Religious Affairs Department of the Central Tibetan Administration, where he represented the Yungdrung Bön tradition alongside scholars from the four major Tibetan Buddhist schools.

In 2020, Geshe-la was appointed by His Holiness, 34th sMenri Trizin, to serve as a teacher of philosophy (mtshan nyid rig pa) and grammar (brda sprod) for foundational-level students at sMenri Monastery, further demonstrating his dedication to preserving and transmitting the teachings. GesheLa has continued his teaching at sMenri Monastery until present.

This March, 2026, His Holiness, 34th sMenri Trizin, gave his blessing and encouragement for GesheLa to become the resident Lama at Yeru Bön Center. A true blessing to all Bön Students in the West.

Geshe Yeshe Gyalwa is known for his wisdom, compassion, and deep devotion to the teachings of Bön. His strong desire to share these sacred texts with students is evident in all that he does. With a naturally charismatic presence, he draws students in—making complex teachings accessible, engaging, and deeply meaningful. Those who encounter his teachings feel both inspired and supported on their path.
