Yeru Bon Center’s 8th Annual
Global Prayer For World Peace and Harmony
February 16th, 2021
7:00-8:00 p.m. – your time zone
Eight years ago, during one of our planning sessions, the Yeru Bön Center Board brain-stormed new ideas for what we can do to give back to all sentient beings and to share the Bön teachings world-wide to Bön practitioners, as well as all others.
Rinpoche said, “We should pray for world peace and harmony. And we should do this prayer on the anniversary of the birth date of Nyamed Shenrab Gyaltsen, the founder of sMenri Monastery, because on his birth date, the power of our prayer will be multiplied by 100,000.”
Thus was born the idea of a 24-hour global prayer on Nyammed Shenrab Gyaltsen’s birthday. The prayer begins in sMenri Monastery, as part of their celebration of his birth anniversary, and moves west around the world, so that everyone could pray at the same time in their time zone.
Eight years later, this is still one of our favorite events. Bön students participate from around the world, covering almost every time zone. Each year, participation grows. We love receiving photos from around the world, showing the gatherings of participants, small and large.
And not only Bön practitioners, but people from many different cultures and religions join. We have received letters from soldiers in the U.S. armed forces who prayed with us from war zones in the Middle East. We’ve received word that our elected officials participate. We received four recognition letters from the White House, from Government officials from Minnesota, and other non-Bon organizations, thanking us for this special event and promising their participation.
We see it as a world-wide blanket of love and compassion, covering us with the spirit of world peace, for victims of terrible events, for our lost children, for people who are ill, for this terrible Covid19 virus, and the list goes one.
Here is how it works:
On February 16th, the anniversary date of Nyamed Shenrab Gyaltsen’s birthday, during the hours of 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in your own time zone, we ask that you find a quiet place to pray and or meditate. This Global event begins at sMenri Monastery and ends 24 hours later at sMenri Monastery.
You can meet with your Sangha/Tsokme group, or you can be alone.
Since the pandemic will likely keep people from gathering, this year Yeru Bon Center will open a Global Prayer Zoom room for students to have a place to participate with other students within their time zones.
It is not mandatory to log onto Zoom, but it is a good way to connect with others who will be participating for this special event.
All you need to do is join the zoom room, quietly, as people will be praying during their time zone. And starting at 7:00 p.m. your time zone you can begin your prayers and or meditation until 8:00 p.m.
There is no fee for participating in the Global Prayer. But we do ask you to register. This way, you can continue to receive update information regarding this global prayer event. We will send the list of registered participants to sMenri Monastery, where the monks will do a special blessing for all participants.
Rinpoche has chosen the Zhi Gyur prayer for everyone to recite. When you register, you will receive this prayer. But you can recite any prayer or mantra you feel comfortable with. In the past we have had people participating from various organizations and churches, and they use the prayers that work best for them.
You don’t have to be a Bön practitioner to participate. We ask that you bring your open warm heart, compassion, love, and light into your prayers and meditation for everyone one to feel and hear. Send your prayers out for all sentient beings.
If the sound of our prayers and meditation can be felt around the world, and if they embrace others and ourselves like a blanket of blessings around the world, what a joy and a blessing!
Please join us again, or join us for the first time, for our 8th annual Global Prayer event for World Peace and Harmony.
You are also invited to join Rinpoche at 7:00 p.m. Central Time as he will do a Candle Light ceremony for the anniversary date of Nyamed Shenrab Gyaltsen’s birthday.
