The Way Of Bön Learning

For centuries, the pursuit of Bön teachings required a journey. If you did not reside in a village fortunate enough to have a Bön monastery or lama, you would travel by foot or horse to seek the wisdom of a Bön master. The journey could last days, leading you to the abode of the lama, who may or may not be present upon your arrival. In such cases, patience was a virtue as you awaited the lama’s return.

Upon meeting the lama, you would respectfully request teachings, and the lama, discerning your true intentions, would decide whether to impart wisdom. The teachings given were considered a profound gift, cherished as a blessing from being in the presence of a master.

Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche recalls a time before sMenri Monastery had a telephone when people would visit for teachings without prior arrangement. His Holiness the 33rd sMenri Trizin, or another senior monk, would offer teachings spontaneously. Students absorbed these teachings with flexibility, openness, and trust, feeling the transformative power of the Bön wisdom.

In today’s world, the accessibility of teachings has changed with technology. Lamas now have centers worldwide, and teachings are announced on social media, allowing us to select virtual teachings at our convenience. However, this convenience may come at the cost of losing the specialness of the traditional journey to seek teachings in person, where the lama assesses the sincerity of the student’s heart and tailors the teachings accordingly.

At Yeru Bön Center, we believe in the power of faith, trust, openness, and the unique experience of being in the presence of a Bön master. We aim to make this experience available to students who share these values. For years, we have upheld this faithful style of teaching in Costa Rica, where the subject of the teachings is not disclosed in advance.

These next two or three years sacred Bon teachings promises to be very unique and powerful. Without knowing the full topic, the hint would be focusing on the Healing powers of Yungdrung Bon. Not done before, but will be presented to the students who register for this special event. You will not be disappointed, but will be in awe of Rinpoche’s chosen Topic.

If your heart is open, filled with trust and warm-heartedness, and ready to receive a profound Bön teaching, we invite you to join us for a two-part teaching in Costa Rica from January 5th to 13th, 2025.
