The Three Pathways of Yungdrung Bön
Pong Lam Dho – Path of Renunciation
Gyur Lam Ngag – Path of Transformation
Drol Lam Dzogpo Chempo – Path of Self Liberation
Also known as Dho Ngag Sem Sum
A Three-Year Journey into the Heart of Yungdrung Bön
We are deeply honored to announce that Latri Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche will be offering a profound three-year course on the Three Paths of Yungdrung Bön:
- Dho (Skt. Sutra) – The Path of Renunciation
- Ngag (Skt. Tantra) – The Path of Transformation
- Sem (Dzogchen) – The Path of Self-Liberation
In the Yungdrung Bön tradition, according three different paths of practice. A practitioner may move through them progressively by establishing ethical discipline through Dho, learning secret transformation practices through Ngag, and eventually resting in the direct recognition of awareness through Sem.
Each path honors the same goal:
The full awakening of wisdom and compassion for the benefit of all beings.
Here Is Where We Start
Year One:
Dho (Skt. Sutra)
The Path of Renunciation to Purify Defilements
October 5 – 12 2026
Arrival October 4th — Departure October 13th
Yeru Retreat Center
Emily, MN
In person and Via Zoom
We begin this sacred journey with Dho, the textual, philosophical, and renunciate tradition.
The Dho path lays the essential foundation for all higher practices. It emphasizes:
- Ethical discipline
- Cultivating compassion and loving-kindness
- Understanding causes and karma
- Reflecting on impermanence and the nature of suffering
- Training the mind through study, contemplation, and meditation
- Pathway on how to renounce five poisons and over emotions
- Ten Transcendental practice – par chin chu
- Five paths Lam Ngag and ten stages of Earth ~ Sachu according to Pong Lam Dho
- Zhi Ney ~ Grounding your concentration and emptiness according to Pong Lam Dho.
In this first retreat, Rinpoche will guide students into the heart of Sutra teachings — helping them understand how purification of body, speech, and mind creates stability for deeper realization.
Participants will:
- Receive detailed teachings on foundational philosophy
- Engage in guided meditations
- Learn how to examine and refine their conduct
- Establish a disciplined daily practice
- Receive structured work and contemplation assignments to complete throughout the year
- Three Online Sessions Throughout the year – scheduled as a group
- Group Practice Session to work on the workbook as a group.
More than a retreat, this is the beginning of a committed training cycle.
Rinpoche will provide teachings, practice instructions, and meaningful integration work so that students do not merely hear the Bön teaching, but live it.
Year Two:
Ngag (Skt. Tantra)
The Path of Transformation
Date to Be Determined as a Group
The second year enters Ngag, Sangwa Ngag, the path of transformation and lineage transmission.
Here, rather than renouncing difficult emotions, practitioners learn how to transform them into wisdom. The energies of anger, attachment, pride, jealousy, and ignorance become fuel for awakening.
Under Rinpoche’s guidance, students will learn:
- The principles of transformation
- Deity visualization practices
- Secret Recitations (Ngag; skt. Mantra) and ritual methods
- Working skillfully with subtle energy
- Sacred symbolism and Kyil Khor (Skt. Mandala)
Ngag is powerful and direct, but it requires the ethical stability established through Dho.
Participants will:
- Receive detailed teachings Ngag on foundational philosophy
- Engage in guided meditations
- Learn how to examine and refine their knowledge on Ngag
- Establish a disciplined daily practice
- Receive structured work and contemplation assignments to complete throughout the year
- Three Online Sessions Throughout the year – scheduled as a group
- Group Practice Session to work on the workbook as a group.
Year Three:
Sem (Dzogchen)
The Path of Self-Liberation
Date to Be Determined as a Group
In the final year, students enter Path of Sem, which is Dzogchen: The Great Perfection.
This is the path of direct recognition of the mind’s true nature. Rather than gradually purifying or transforming, one learns to recognize awareness itself and allow thoughts to self-liberate.
Rinpoche will introduce:
- The view of Dzogchen
- Direct experiential instructions
- Meditation in natural awareness
- Integration of realization into daily life
This is considered the most direct path. Yet it rests upon the stability cultivated in the first two years.
A Rare and Precious Opportunity
It is rare to receive systematic instruction in all three traditions directly from an authentic lineage holder.
This three-year journey is designed for serious students who wish to deepen their understanding and practice of Yungdrung Bön in a structured and integrated way.
Each year will include:
- In-person retreat teachings or Zoom Participation
- Three Online Practice sessions for each Course – Date determined as a group
- Assigned contemplations and integration work throughout the year to prepare for the next course. Each Student Will Receive a workbook.
- Group Practice Session to work on the workbook as a group.
- One session with Rinpoche, each year via Zoom or in person.
We begin October 5th – 12th with Dho, the essential foundation.
If you feel called to commit to a complete path — one that purifies, transforms, and ultimately self-liberates — we warmly invite you to join this extraordinary cycle of teachings.
